Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin joined Bangladesh Army Medical Corps on October 25, 1986. During his professional career, he dutifully served in various key roles in Army, Air Force and Divisional Head Quarters. In addition, he acted as Chief Instructor in Army Medical Corps Training Centre. Prior to his current appointment in Bangladesh Jail, he served as Director (Stores & Depot) from September 04, 2012 to December 17, 2013 in Health Directorate’s Central Medical Stores Depot located at Tejgaon, Dhaka.
He received ‘Fundamental Para Training’ in 1994 and successfully completed Para Sky Jumps. Later in 2000, he completed Post Graduation in Hospital Management under Dhaka University.
He served in Rwanda, Kuwait and South Sudan in UN Peace Missions. Further, he travelled to Canada, France, UK, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Uganda, Malaysia and New Zealand on various occasions. In personal life, he is blessed with one son and one daughter.
Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin served as Additional Inspector General of Prisons from August 12, 2009 to January 31, 2011 and prepared the “Strategic Plan” for Bangladesh Prison as Head of the delegated team members. He visited different Jails of New Zealand, UK and Malaysia. He also participated in the “2nd Asia Pacific Seminar for Correctional Managers” in Malaysia and presented “Effect of Overcrowding in Prisons” in the seminar.
He assumed the post of Inspector General of Prisons on December 18, 2013.
